Former world No.2 Andreas Jonsson is set to take on the sport’s elite on his boyhood track after being named as wild card for the Swedish FIM Speedway Grand Prix in Hallstavik on July 7.
AJ dons the famous No.16 race jacket for his SGP comeback on the track where he represents Rospiggarna in the Swedish Elitserien.
It’s also the circuit where Jonsson learnt his trade before becoming a World Championship regular for 15 straight seasons from 2002 to 2016, winning nine SGP rounds.
He has an incredible 157 FIM Speedway Grand Prix appearances, 845 heats and 1,370 points to his name, putting him among the most successful riders since the SGP format was launched in 1995.
And Jonsson will be determined to make his mark on a track he knows well, as Hallstavik’s HZ Bygg Arena stages its first Swedish SGP.
AJ is joined in Hallstavik by track reserves Oliver Berntzon and Kim Nilsson, who wear No.17 and No.18 respectively. Both are Swedish internationals, who have previously tasted SGP action.
The referee for the Swedish SGP is Poland’s Artur Kusmierz.
